PARIS YOUTH FOUNDATION THE OFF BUTTON
The appeal of British indie-rock is one that continues to exist, so long as it evolves, and along the way the Liverpool band Paris Youth Foundation have joined this foray with their Bombay Bicycle Club-meets-Two Door Cinema Club styles. The five-piece have only been releasing music for around a year, beginning with debut ‘If You Wanna’, and so they very well still be a new name to many of you. A fine introduction to new listeners has to be ‘The Off Button’, which has all the naivety and nostalgia of the mid ‘00s, combined with the modern context of trying to break up with our phones… As vocalist Kevin Potter explains, ‘The Off Button' is “about not being able to switch off. Whether it's your head or your phone. It's about calling people you shouldn't be calling anymore. It's about the middle of the night and how we all seem to forget how to think and let our phones ruin our lives. It's a song that I hope everyone can relate to, whether you would admit it or not." In spite of this theme of self-destructive behaviour, Paris Youth Foundation have put forward a song of joyful indie guitars and drums, perfect for summer evenings, hanging out with friends and festivals. - Hannah Thacker
